The EU Pact on Migration and Asylum: What Changed and What It Means in Practice

On 13 June 2026, the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum came fully into force. Approved by the European Parliament in April 2024 after years of negotiation, the Pact represents the most comprehensive overhaul of the European migration and asylum system since the Dublin Regulation. The change alters how Member States manage, share responsibility for, and respond to migration flows at the EU’s external borders.
